Watercolor In Williamsburg: Capturing Erica & Chris’s Wedding Day in Watercolor

There are some celebrations that remind you exactly why you love what you do and Erica and Chris’s wedding was one of those unforgettable days. This past weekend I had the honor and pleasure of creating guest watercolor sketches at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, for this wonderful couple.

The atmosphere buzzed with joy and laughter as guests gathered to celebrate the couple’s love story. But amidst the music, the sparkle, and the dancing, there was something unique unfolding for all the guests to see — a live watercolor experience that allowed everyone to witness art being created in real time.

As I painted, guests would pause mid-conversation to watch each brushstroke take shape. They smiled, whispered to each other, and even pointed out familiar faces in the artwork as I completed and displayed each piece.

Again and again, I heard delighted comments like:

“You’re so talented.”

“This is such a great idea!”

“I wish we did this at our wedding.”

It’s those spontaneous reactions—those shared moments of wonder and connection—that make live art such a special part of a celebration.

Erica, radiant in her gown, and Chris, beaming beside her, were surrounded by family, friends, and so much genuine happiness. I wanted them to stay fully present in that moment, to enjoy every second without worrying about posing or pausing for the painting. So, I quietly let the coordinator know that after the event, I’d love to receive a photo of the two of them together. That way, I could paint a special keepsake piece—one final artwork created from the heart and delivered later, as a lasting memory of their day.

From the laughter around the easel to the final toast of the night, the joy was absolutely contagious. It was an honor and a joy to bring art to life among such warmth and celebration.

Congratulations again to Erica and Chris—thank you for allowing me to be part of your beautiful beginning.
