Ok, "Storytime" Friend. Imagine, it was 2007. I'd already taken the leap and officially launched my wedding & event planning business just one year earlier. Things were beginning to fall into place — I was gaining recognition, starting to work with clients I loved, and feeling the momentum build. It was an exciting time, and I could see my dream of running a successful creative business becoming a reality.

And then it happened.

In December, the Great Recession of 2007 hit. By the middle of 2008, the housing bubble burst. Unemployment crept up, consumer confidence plummeted, and uncertainty hung in the air for everyone. For many, it was a sign to pull back, stay safe, and ride out the storm. It would have been easy — even understandable — to second-guess my decision to become an entrepreneur.

So what did I do?

I doubled down and bet on me.

Instead of retreating, I built smarter strategies, expanded my network, and committed to investing in my skills. I adapted. I learned. I found opportunities where others saw obstacles. By the end of 2008, I had earned my certification as a Floral Designer, adding even more value to my business. And by the middle of 2009 — just as the recession officially ended — Vivid Expressions LLC had become my full-time career. I hadn’t just survived; I had grown.

That experience taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my life: Creativity and resilience are the ultimate tools for navigating uncertainty.

Fast forward to today, and while the circumstances may differ, the uncertainty feels familiar.
